Indian Institute of Crafts and Design or IICD conducts an annual exam every year to choose deserving candidates for their undergraduate, post graduate and diploma certification programmes. They are trained as Craft designers to act as a bridge between the artisan and the market. The fashion design undergraduate program takes the students through the handicraft industry to add value through design. The programme was first introduced in 2005 and since then graduates of this programme are increasingly building a strong base for revival, sustenance and evolution of fashion.
Fashion design is based on using crafting techniques to achieve the exclusivity and luxurious edge over the industrial techniques. The idea is to evolve fashion by introducing modern crafts techniques and looking at world wide crafts based developments. To facilitate new techniques some of the things taught here include-
- Technology of pattern making
- Draping and garment construction
- Understanding of materials and traditional skills of surface ornamentation
- Concepts of art, craft and design, digital tools
The exam is based on design technicalities, marketing, sustainability, professional ethics and other relevant skills. There is also a post graduate program available that is not exclusively fashion design, but focus on different domains of the same. The postgraduate programs available here that include different domains of fashion in reference with fine art, textiles and clothing.

IICD 2018 Eligibility Criteria
For Under Graduates (UG) professional programs all applying candidates should have passed their 10+2 from a recognized board of education. Students appearing in the qualifying exam are eligible to apply.
For Post Graduate (PG) professional programs candidates should be from a recognized college or university with a degree or diploma in Architecture/Design, Fashion, Fine Art, Home Science in Textiles & Clothing.
Children or wards of artisans are allowed admission into the undergraduate program if they have 5 years direct work experience in hereditary traditional crafts after successful passing of Senior Higher Secondary Board Exam. Graduates in any discipline with an aptitude towards crafts, fashion or design; students appearing in the qualifying exam are also eligible.
Candidates who are appearing for their qualifying exam in either Class 12 or their graduation course can also apply. They will be granted provisional admission and subject to obtaining the defined eligibility latest by 31st October 2018
IICD 2018 For Foreign Nationals and NRI Candidates
The Foreign Nationals/NRI candidates who want admission in IICD must have required qualifications similar or equivalent to that required for Indian candidates. Note -
Students or candidates who are familiar with English are eligible to apply. Considering the medium of Instruction at IICD is English, those without familiarity to English will not be eligible.

For the IICD 2016 25% of seats are reserved for students who are domicile residents of Rajasthan.
IICD 2018 Application Form
All candidates are eligible to apply online on or before the last date of application of IICD for admission to UG/PG Courses. The process of downloading the application form and submission can be done online via the official website
Along with the application form, students have to provide an attested mark sheet/ grade sheet/ certificates of 10th & 12th or final year college examination along with duly filled application form. They also have to give an a passport size photograph in the space provided and attach the demand draft of requisite amount with the application form, certified copies of mark sheet/grade sheet/ certificates and other required documents, Date of Birth Certificate and 3 Passport size photographs.
IICD 2016 Application Fees
The Admission Process Fee for Indian Candidates is Rs 1500/- (Rs One Thousand Five Hundred only) and for NRI/Foreign National Candidates are Rs 3000/- (Rs Three Thousand only). All fees are non refundable and have to be paid along with a demand draft during the submission of the form.

IICD 2018 Exam Pattern
The paper is divided into two sections: Section A & Section B. The paper contains total 31 questions and each question has been allotted marks on the right side of the question. Students should read all the questions carefully and not write your name anywhere in the test paper. The exam is for 2 hours and includes analysis on general awareness, creativity and aptitude amongst others. There is a total of 100 marks available for the same. Sketching and drawing potential would also be evaluated.
